Silver strikers in six-point Super League lead

After thrashing Moyale Barracks 5-2 on Saturday, Silver Strikers maintained their rhythm in the K65 million TNM Super League when they crushed Bvumbwe Research 2-0 on Sunday at Silver Stadium.

The victory sealed the team’s super weekend of overcoming a glut of misfortunes that, among others, saw them losing to Red Lions (0-1) and their coach Hellings Mwakasungura being wounded by thugs, during the past seven days.

The Sunday resultS took the Bankers to 28 points, six points clear of their Lilongwe rivals, Civo United who are second with 22 points.

The responsibility of ensuring that the team collects maximum points was left to Peter Mwenda and Frank Banda who shared a goal each in both halves.

Bvumbwe Research through their match maker and current TNM Super League top goal scorer Vincent Chinthenga also came close to scoring but lacked enough ammo and a bit of luck, as observed by their coach Bob Mpinganjira.

“It was just one of those unlucky days. The players tried, actually they played much better than yesterday. Our supporters must not lose hope with our donating all the six points here, we still have more games and we will do better,” said Mpinganjira, the former Mighty Wanderers and Flames legend.

On Saturday, the Thyolo side, on position nine with 12 points, threw away a 1-0 lead to lose 1-2 to Kamuzu Barracks.

In another game played on Saturday, ESCOM drew 0-0 with Kabwafu United at Mzuzu Stadium.
