Simba supporters drown out Wanderers fans in Lilongwe as Tanzanian presence swells Bingu Stadium
The first preliminary round clash between Mighty Wanderers and Tanzanian giants Simba SC at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe has taken on an unusual dimension, with the sizeable Tanzanian community in Malawi adding a strong wave of support for the visiting side.

Although Mighty Wanderers are the home team, Simba’s red colours have been highly visible around Lilongwe as Tanzanian nationals and travelling supporters turned out in large numbers for Sunday’s CAF Champions League encounter.
Simba supporters began making their presence felt well before kick-off, with fans travelling from Tanzania joining others based in Malawi to rally behind the team.
Simba had also organised transport for supporters travelling from Tanzania, reflecting the club’s determination not to leave its team without significant backing on foreign soil.
The situation created what felt like a home-away-from-home atmosphere for Simba.
The large Tanzanian population in Lilongwe provided the visitors with a natural support base, while the travelling contingent added even more colour and noise to the occasion.
For Wanderers, however, the challenge was not only on the pitch. The Nomads will be looking to ensure that their home advantage is not lost in the stands as the tie unfolds.
