Airtel Malawi has sieved through thousands of submissions and selected the best 6 finalists who auditioned for the ‘Airtel TRACE Music Star’, who will battle it out in the national finals slated for 21st February in Blantyre.
Among the shortlisted candidates there is former Malawi Big Brother Africa hotshot Siphelire Chitambo – Sipe.
The other five shortlisted hopefuls include 13 year old Vitumbiko Maseko Phiri from Blantyre, 26 year old Tiyamike Chakhaza from Lilongwe, Grey Douglas Longwe, 26 from Blantyre and 27 year old Sam Mjura Mkandawire from Lilongwe.
The five have beat over 30, 000 people who also auditioned for this competition by calling 59911.
The six were selected based on a combination of singing skills- quality, pitch, originality, tone, range.
Airtel Malawi is urging its customers to vote for their favourite artist by sending the contestant’s code to 59911. Each SMS costs MK50 only.
Customers with the highest number of votes will win various prizes ranging from a Samsung Galaxy phone, MK50, 000 e- value of Airtel Money, MK1, 000 airtime and t-shirts.
The winner of this national finals will pocket a MK14 million cash prize and will further take part in the Pan African Airtel Trace Music Star with other contestants drawn from 13 countries to battle it out for the accolade of ‘the next Big African Star’.
‘Airtel Trace Music Star’s aims to create the platform to empower Malawi youths by giving them opportunities to develop their innate skills, achieve their dreams and possibly become the next biggest stars.
The competition is also taking place across 12 other countries where Airtel has presence; Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda Zambia, Madagascar, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, The Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon.
The best singing talent in each country will be identified, rewarded and put in competition with the best singing talents of other participating countries to run for the Title of best African Music Talent.
The overall grand prize comprises of a recording deal with Kon Live, a distributed label through Universal Music Group and an intense mentorship programme with Akon in the United States of America.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
