Spain gives Malawi K2.1 billion for social services

Spain will give Malawi a grant of $5 million (about K2 billion) to enable the country expand the frontiers of social services and the reach of the sanitation circle.

Foreign Affairs spokesperson Quent Kalichero said in New York on Wednesday that the grant will be given under a memorandum of understand that the two governments will sign on Friday.

“That’s correct. Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Malawi and Spain will on Friday sign a memorandum of understanding that will lead to the provision of a grant amounting to $5 million for social services and sanitation,” said Kalichero.

According to her, this is a welcome development at a time when the country needs resources to confront and overcome a myriad of social and economic challenges.

“The signing ceremony will take place right here in New York,” she said.

Spain’s capitalist mixed economy is the largest worldwide and the 5th largest in the European Union, as well as the Eurozone’s 4th largest.

  1. No free lunch. Spain is in economic dire straits at the moment. This is not a grant. I would have been comfortable if it was a loan. There is more we are not being told. This government is taking us for a ride.

  3. “Given or to be given” are you people aware of the economic status of Spain and how it is being figured among Euro zone countries. Spain like Greece are in economic tourmoil, unemployment us skyrocketing, prices of goods and services going up daily, demonstrations are order of the day. Dont be decieved.

  4. for it is appreciable to aid the poor but i do Not find any wisdom in aiding the experts in the name of the poor

  5. The money will just be squandered by these civil servants. It is not even an investment but meant for the bottomless pit of social service. 50 years from now it won’t have made an impact. Those who will eat it will still be wanting more then.
