Sports minister hails Chitipa Utd initiative

Newly-appointed Minister of Youth and Sports,  Ulemu Msungama has hailed Chitipa United Football Club for the initiative to buy its own bus and launch replica jerseys at an event that took place in Chitipa.

Msungama: Hails Chitipa United

Msungama was guest of honour at an event where the buy-a-bus task force was officially handing over the 32 seater rebranded bus to the executive committee of the club on Saturday.

At the event, the launch of sale of replica jerseys was very successful as the Sports Minister got one at K500 000.00.

Legislator Alunibwira Msongole and second vice president of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), Othaniel Hara bought theirs at K250 000.00 each while Minister of Civic Education and National Unity, Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo, got his at K200 000.00.

Other like Minister of Lands Kezzi Msukwa, legislators Nick Masebo and WelaniChilenga, Sulom  president Tiya Somba Banda, FAM president Walter Nyamilandu, Northern Region Football Association Chairperson Lameck Khonje and FAM executive member Chimango Munthali, all bought their jerseys at K100,000.00 each.

The jerseys will be sold at a minimum price of K10 000.00 to supporters.

Speaking after the event, the Sports Minister hailed Chitipa United for the initiative.

“This is an encouragement to other teams. Chitipa United has set a very god example that others can follow. This is a great initiative!

“His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera normally says ‘nothing for us without us’. If we are to develop as a nation, we need to start thinking of doing things for ourselves. Chitipa United has done it!

“Buy contributing money by themselves- some were contributing even K100- they have managed to secure a bus worth millions. A journey of so many kilometres begins with just one step,” remarked Msungama.

FAM’s  Hara, said he expects some clubs to do even more than what Chitipa United has done.

General Secretary for the club, Duma Ngoma, said the club will ask Chitipa District Council to be keeping the bus for the club.
