Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Executive Committee has come under fire for failing to honour a payment of over K700,000.00 to the referees who officiates games in the Southern Region Football Association League (SRFAL).
Following the decision by the referees to boycot officiating games, the SRFA went on to bring on board incompetent and unqualified referees a development that has brought anger to teams.
Representatives from clubs who plays in the league converged in Blantyre on Tuesday to map the way forward.
This is where it was resolved that they give SRFA a three day ultimatum to the committee to pay the referees all else to take the matter to another stage.
Chairperson for the grouping Dickson Gobede said the meeting was aimed at discussing the management of the SRFAL.
He revealed that the issue of failing to pay referees took centre stage at the meeting and participants agreed that it needs urgent attention or else clubs will not fulfil any fixture.
“We have given them three days to do the payment or else we will take another step” warned Gobede.
Asked on what they will do if their request is not addressed, Gobede said they will engage the country’s soccer governing body Football Association of Malawi (FAM).
According to Gobede, the three day ultimatum will start counting the very same minute the letter is submitted to the SRFA.
He said the letter will be submited by the end of Tuesday or Wednesday.
Meanwhile, SRFA is yet to sign a contract with USA Sports wear manufacturing company Nsejjere who earlier this year agreed to sponsor the league.
However, the league has been run under the banner Nsejjere Southern Region Football Associaton League.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
