Sources from both the theological college [St. Peters Major Seminary] and Blantyre Archdiocese confirmed the shakeup.

“What I know is that Fr. Chimwala is going back to his diocese thus Blantyre Archdiocese. I cannot tell as of now what the authorities have in store for him. It could be a demotion or something bigger is
awaiting him,” the source in Blantyre Archdiocese said.

Two other sources at St. Peters also confirmed the changes and added that many students are not happy with Fr. Malamulo because he is “ too hard” for students.

“Many students fear for their vocations. Fr. Malamulo is the one who fired several students who were just about to become deacons and the reasons he fired them for were not serious at all. That time he was acting as rector for three weeks. You mean finding a student drinking beer is a reason to fire him when priests drink alcohol? He even refused to forgive the boys despite bishops advising him to reverse some of the dismissals,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Fr. Chimwala is expected to leave the seminary by May.
