Standard Bank Cup prize money up, launches June 30.

The prestigious Standard Bank top eight knock-out Cup is expected to be launched on June 30th, the sponsors Standard Bank have announced.

The announcement was made on Wednesday morning at a news conference held at Standard Bank Offices in Lilongwe.

Speaking in an interview with Nyasa Timesafter the news conference, Standard Bank Head of Marketing Linda Kachingwe-Sisya  assured the soccer lovers of another great episode of football under the sponsorship of one of the Malawi’s leading commercial banks, Standard Bank.

She said the format in the 2012-2013 competition will remain be the same as last year-knockout.

“The official launch of the tournament will be on June 30th and this year’s tournament will also be played on knockout basis,” she said.

She said the top six teams in the TNM Super League will get an automatic qualification into the top eight trophy and the customers will have a chance of voting for other four teams to take part.

The four teams will tussle and the top two teams will complete the top eight list.

According to Kachingwe-Sisya, both Standard Bank customers and non-customers will stand a chance of winning various prizes.

“Customers will get instant prizes through voting and those who don’t have an account with our bank will also stand a chance to win the prizes simply by opening an account with our bank,” she said.

“We have been sponsoring football for five years and this is the sixth. During this period we have seen our national team qualifying to the African Cup of Nations finals, ” said Kachingwe-Sisya.

When asked by Nyasa Times  the sponsorship amount for the 2012-2013 season, Kachingwe-Sisya said “we will announce the package at the day of the launch but be assured that we are increasing the sponsorship”.

Meanwhile, the Standard Bank Marketing Manager has promised to that the Bank will continue offering its customers excellent services.

Lilongwe Police outfit side Blue Eagles football club are the defending champions of the Standard Bank Cup.
