Steven Matope wins Toyota Sienta in Marymount Kutukula Maphunziro promo

Lilongwe-based young man, Steven Matope, has won a Toyota Sienta vehicle in the ongoing Marymount Kutukula Maphunziro Girl Child Promotion.

Matope, 29, from Area 22 in Lilongwe has expressed excitement for the car prize.

“I did not expect this happening to me. I was trying my luck in this competition,” he said.

Matope added that he has entering into the promotion several times before the win of first prize in the sixth draw.

He further said he will start a taxi business to improve his economic status as well as of his family.

Matope wrote his Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) in 2019 but was just staying home.

Member of  Marymount Secondary School Promotion Task team, Benard Mkokha, said the school is in the process of  expanding the facilities like hostels, dining hall, classrooms and science laboratories among others.

“Every year, the school receives a lot of applications but we are limited with space hence the fundraising to increase space thereby admitting more girls,” he said.

Mkokha said more girls are attracted to the schools because of the performance.

Currently, he said, the school has an enrollment capacity of 800 students but needs to extend to over 900.
