Students sets ablaze Ntcheu Secondary School

Malawi government through the Ministry Education, Science and Technology has closed Ntcheu Secondary School after students set ablaze school property and damaged some staff houses on Saturday.

The students torched the school property in protest against the expulsion 20 students who had been expelled for allegedly absconding classes without valid reasons.

All students at the school have been sent home following its indefinite closure on Saturday.

However, seven students have been arrested in connection to the torching of school property, according to Ntcheu Police spokesperson Gift Matewere.

Matewere condemned the students for resorting to what described as “barbaric acts”.

He said those who will be found to have ignited the idea of torching the school will face the long arm of the law.

Over 30 computers, mattresses and other property, all together worth millions of kwacha, has been destroyed.

  2. Many students do not see the value of school. A jC driver working in the Judiciary Dept or an MP with MSCE earns more than a graduate with Masters degree! A driver is parastal body such as Escom or Water Board earns more than a graduate with Masters degree or a medical doctor.
What is the point of going to University and be tourtured for over 7 yrs and be humiliated by a Form 4 driver! It simply does not make any sense.

  3. The youth of today, when will you learn to be focused. Even if someone somewhere must have provoked you but my question is, is this the way to react? At the end of the day, you are losers. You can’t attend classes at all. Two wrongs don’t make a right guys. Shame on you.

  4. all these acts has the beginning why don’t you investigate and bring us real issue here…..the headmaster is new there and he has been treating teachers and students badly in the name of kukoza school…..he is very selfish and safuna kumva zaena Mr. Muhanya is the name of the teacher…….bt all in all students of Ntcheu did not help themselves here…learn to think critically before doing an action….nanu apolisi aku Ntcheu youre stupit because mpakana kukumenyani and kukulandani mufti secondary school students?hhahahahahahahha tchaina2mch ntchito uncle B….Everest….kachira…mahule basi basi….

  5. Umayamba wanena chatsitsa dzaye ndiye nkumati njobvu yathyoka mnyanga. What began the rioting? Definitely its not the absconding students. There is something deeper
    than what is reported here.

Be sober and investigate A polisi. You will appreciate very well. You have been told something that does not sound correct according to Association of Quota System Dishonest Haters

  7. Secondary school learners please stop acting stupid. Destroying school property only squeezes you down. Learn from university students; they don’t do such a thing unless are from Chanco or Poly and even them they spare their property too.

  8. Pls teachers ,headmasters etc u must takecare when handling pupils because when they are over excited they can be a nightmare

  9. The only concern I have is that two of the female students at this school were my short time sex partners. Ministry of education, better get back my girls before long or else….

  10. Why should they be in school or attend classes, if just taking the exam and getting 42 points will take them to University of Malawi? Quota system!!!!!! Politicians are not helping these kids. Give Malawi 15 years, we will see what type of leaders these kids will be

  11. The madness of toyitoyi and torching tikuzitenga kuti, I now remember Kamuzu Banda, who vehemently said no to television, coz kids are watching and taking other kids madness from a far. They deserve jail, their reasons of backing other stupid stupi student who did not like education n chose to be out, and chase how can u back these fellows who r not ready to learn – what type of leaders are planting? On the issue of burning the school, their parent akaobembe njerwa and agule malata, they r taking chances of democracy.

  13. AND YOU ASK THE ALUMNI TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SCHOOL WHEN ALL WHAT STUDENTS KNOW IS TO DESTROY SCHOOL PROPERTY?

I CANT DO THAT. MIN OF EDUC. PLEASE DONT ALLOCATE THEM ANOTHER SCHOOL MPAKA ATATCHULANA WHO WAS BEHIND THAT.

  14. Dont blame the students for their indescpline..
Let us be reasonable and find out what the primaly cause of the students reaction was, its true that the stated reason is not just worthy to torch the school properties.
I strongly feel there is something hidden… Ahediwo afotokoze bwinobwino.

      1. Very true that no amount of provocation by the Headmaster can warrant such a barbaric act. It saddens me to see students from public schools behaving like this while their colleagues from private schools and from well to do families are concentrating on their studies and in the end will do better in exams and eventually secure better jobs. In future it’s these same misguided students who shall be crying foul about unequal opportunies.

  15. How can they treat our tax money in this way?

Please our beloved teachers, lecturers in our beloved country, please advise our ill advised students that our hard earned tax money is difficult to come by and as such we cannot afford to set any building on fire.

What sort of parents do these students who do such things have?

  16. Pamenepa anawa anaganiza ngati NKhuku aii! Bolanso nkhuku ikanaganiza bwino! M’ma college ana amapanga zionetsero koma sindinamve kuti aotcha xool mpaka ma computer, mbole zao amenewa

  17. Foolish students….they need to be punished. they are putting the already struggling economy under pressure

  18. I think we are being lenient with these pupils! Dismiss them!

……and yet you will find some funny lawyer backing and defending these barbaric acts in court! yerrrhhhhhhhh!

I Seriously Ask The Minister Of Education Not To Transfer Any Student From That Xool To Any Gvt Xool Bcoz Thy Will Do The Same Barberic Behaviuor. Evn The COURT Should Not Hav Mercy On The Myopic Pupils, Let Them Face Drustc Measures So That Others Should Len A Leason. Usawech Kapena Ufit Eti?!!!!!! Vizeleza Ivi Akwa.

  20. WHY SHOULD ONE STAY IN CLASS FULL TIME WHEN ONE CAN MAKE IT TO THE UNIVERSITY WITH 37 or 40 POINTS ???

KUWALELERA WANA PA CHINENA NDI CHONCHO !! MAWA TIMVA ZOTI WANA AKUTUMULA MAKOLO KAPENA MPHUNZITSI MAKOFI !!

  21. No…. We are not justified to call them mbuli or any othername which is not worthy it. Teachers feel they are infallible. They feel they cant b corrected. They are not cooperative so the students might hv tried doing what they could peacefuly bt th schools staff may nt hv cooperated. They jx had 2 fight 4 their friends. Aphunzitsi musamadzimve alaaa

  22. THIS QUOTA SYSTEM PROMOTES LAZINESS TO OUR STUDENTS IN CENTRAL AND SOUTH BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY WILL BE OFFERED PLACES SOMEWHERE ON A SILVER PLATTER !!

KULIBE XOOL KUNO KUMWERA NDI CENTRAL NKONA TIKUTUMIZAKO WANA KUMPOTOKO !!! ZOPINGA ZAMBIRI MONGA ZINAMWALI JANDO DAMBWE NDAGALA

  23. Cause and effect!!! That is what happens when you send students to school WHO DO NOT DESERVE TO BE THERE, just because they are from a certain region! There are people who score better points that these holigans. That is the price you pay for your QUOTA SYSTEM. Suck it up!!

  24. Headmaster akambe bwinonso coz aboma mumatumiza anthu osadziwa ntchito yawo mapeto ake they are fond of making wrong decisions

  25. The scale of damages was huge. If one may ask, why were they absconding classes and where were they during class time? Were they warned b4. Absconded for how long ? I feel the punishment was too harsh, hence the students’ unprecedented reactions.

    1. These punishments are set by ministry. Since time imemorial students have been expelled from school, for various reasons, they never burnt down school.

Some of us were expelled, studied on our own, went to university as externals, now we are ” working in very good jobs” people should learn to accept punishment if the breach rules.

If you Kill you should be Killed thats not being harsh, as some NGOs think.

  26. Nobody can accept such in human acts. Y destroying their own future and 4 those to come? They must face the law. Government is spending alot to improve education infranstructures and some selfish students are busy frustrating such efforts. Mudzaifuna sukulu one day.

  27. Many students in govt xools are not serious! The reason is not enough for torching school property. The headmaster should immediately sack those who were absconding classes and their sympathisers. This is why many govt secondary xools dont fair well in national exams kumangobwerako ndizima 20 or 30 points.

    1. A Kennedy? 20 0r 30, are you sure? mwachepetsa (6 subjects x 9 points)=54 ena amalemba more than 6 just in case (8 subjects x 9 points) = 72.

We can see why people suport the quota system.

      1. Wa 20 ndi wa 30 amapita ku University, under Quota System. Anzathu amachita argue kuti anyone with 6 credits qualifys to go to university therefore lowest points for university in Malawi is 36.
