Sulom set to start giving Karonga United league games
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has set second week of May for Karonga United to taste Malawi’s flagship league after returning from the lower league through a boardroom decision.
Karonga United were relegated from the league four seasons ago but returned after Chilumba Barracks forfeited their promotion because of sponsorship woes.
Sulom General Williams Banda said all was set for Karonga who replaced Chilumba having finished as runners-up in the Northern Region Football Association League to join the party.
He said should the team satisfy the club licencing requirements their first game would be fixed in the second week of May.
“We are looking at a few things regarding club licencing should they meet the requirements there’s nothing that can stop us from giving them games by the second week of May,” Banda.
The development comes after the team was assured of financial support from Bishop Abraham Simama who is also the sponsor of Northern Football League.
Simama whose son is of the trustees bailed out the team after one of the front line sponsors Willy Yabwanya pulled under controversial circumstances.
Wizards FC who also returned to Malawi’s flagship league courtesy of another boardroom decision started the campaign but in style after beating Red Lions.
Dwangwa United also bounced back after winning the Central Region League title just while Max Bullets are the only league debutants after being promoted from the lower league in the Southern part of Malawi.
