Sunbird Hotels adopts E-wallet Malawi talent search competition

The Sunbird Tourism has adopted the national music talent show, E-Wallet, which has now reverted to only singing contest with half-a-million Kwacha set-up as a grand prize.

The competition has been devised to find new singing talent-unlike last year where some dancers were incorporated- and this year the auditions, starting from for this weekend, have been extended to other area aside the country’s main cities of Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Blantyre.

E-Wallet organizing team member, Anthony Kafuwa confirmed to Nyasa Times that the talent show has been renamed following coming on board of Sunbird Tourism who are banking-rolling the project.

“Initially, the Sunbird had plans to initiate their own talent showpiece, with E-wallet already in place, it was agreed they should adopt it with the E-Wallet team as the managers,” explained Kafuwa.

This year’s winner will pocket a grand prize of K500, 000 with a second and third runners-up getting K300, 000 and K200,000 respectively.

The organizers have loped in AXA Bus as official coach provider for the contestants during the competition, which will officially start on 28th September and will run up to November 30th.

“There will be final five contestants to fight for the grand prize, and the show is expected to be beamed on MBCtv and Times TV. We will have vocal and stage work training for the final 24 selected contestants before the show officially starts,” added Kafuwa.

And Sunbird Tourism Public Relations Officer, Akossa Mphepo said this year’s event will present an opportunity to each and every Malawian who feels they got talent and are capable of withstanding the heat.

“We know there is raw talent hidden away somewhere and would like to give people a platform to unearth this talent in our quest to find Malawi’s next singing sensation. In addition to this, we would like to identify one MC who will host all live shows from start to finish so this person has to be committed to perform to both the audience and show producer’s expectations,” said Mphepo.
