The Republic of Tanzania has established the Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) offices in Malawi with an aim of improving efficiency in transport services in Malawi.
Speaking during the inauguration of the TPA offices in Lilongwe on Monday, Tanzania Minister of Transport, Professor Makame Mbarawa said the TPA will bring transport services close to Malawi.

“This will improve efficiency and performance of the Authority thereby making Malawi customers enjoy better services from Tanzania,” he said.

Mbarawa further said the  set up of the offices will minimize the costs of doing business especially logistics and other businesses for Malawi customers.
Before, he said, people were travelling all the way to Tanzania to get the services but this is now closer.
He encouraged the business community to use the TPA offices to sort out all their cargo and transportation challenges they face from Tanzania ports to Malaŵi.
In his remarks, Malawi Minister of Transport, Jacob Hara, said the offices will actually bring efficiency to the Authority for Malawi in all the private and public sectors.
“Government as well as the business community will no longer travel to Dar es salaam to transact and clear their cargo,” he said.

The Authority in Malawi is promoting the Tanzania ports in such a fact that Malawians can do all the issues, clearing their cargo right in Lilongwe.

TPA Director General, Plasduce Mkeli Mbossa said the Authority will bridge the gap that has been there by business people when they are using Tanzania ports mainly the Port of Dar es salaam.
“Our expectation is that all the challenges faced by Malawians when using Tanzania ports have been resolved,” he said.
Mbossa said all the information regarding the ports will be provided through the TPA offices in Malawi.
