TC donate K10 million worth cylinders towards Covid -19 fight

In  a bid to strengthen fight against Covid -19 pandemic, Tobacco Commission (TC) on Saturday donated K10 million materials towards fighting the pandemic.

Speaking during a handover ceremony which took place at TC Headquarters in Capital City Lilongwe, the newly appointed TC Chief Executive Officer, Dr Chidanti Malunga said the donation is a response to President Lazarus Chakwera appeal to help him fight the pandemic in whatever way.

He said: “We are in state of national disaster and every time the State President goes on TV, he appeals for donation that is why we thought of buying the equipment and donate towards the fight,”

Malunga said there is mutual bond between the farmers and the commission, and that bond is so crucial because if the farmers are sick, they cannot be productive.

“This mutual relationship incited us donate flowmeters amounting to K6,104, 999.94, Oxygen gas refill 10 Kg amounting to K3,958, 877.18 all amounting to K10,063,877.13,” said Malunga.

Malunga said as government institution, they have embarked on new innovative aimed at assisting the farmers to protect themselves from the pandemic.

Receiving the donation, president of Society of Medical Doctors in Malawi Dr Victor Mithi,

commended TC for the donation.

“We are very happy for the donation by the Tobacco Commission these people has made our job very easier and our stand remains the same that we should be allowing organisations to buy the equipment themselves,” he said.

Mithi said at the moment, they have  no capacity on their own to do everything and appealed to for more support.
