Teachers fail to get certificates for failure to complete college fees

Government might not be able to recruit all 10, 000 primary school teachers because Kasungu Teachers College is refusing to give some of the teachers certificates because of an unfinished college fees.

Teachers failes to complete paying fees

The teachers are just loitering around the Kasungu Teachers College with the hope that the college management would feel pity and give them the certificates.

The government has given the EPTE and ODL teachers who graduated two years ago to fill GP1 forms so that they are employed when schools open after the long summer holiday.

Principal of Kasungu Teachers College Laudon Chimangeni confirmed that the college was withholding teaching certificates of some teachers because they failed to pay college fees in full.

“This is not new to them. We entered an agreement with them that we should not send them back to their homes but let them finish and they should bring the fees later. But since they graduated two years ago, they have never come back to us,” he said.

He said a committee has been set up to look into the matter since some of them say they want their allowances, which the college failed to pay them, go towards clearing the fees debt.

The government has been forced to employ the teachers after they threatened unspecified action.

I have no confidence in ODL teachers and the whole thing about ODL especially when it comes to training.
