Teen girl brutally murdered in Malawi: Private parts removed for rituals

Mchinji district is in the headlines again. Barely a week After an 18 years old girl was beaten with hot wire, the Police in central region border district with Zambia are now looking for a 21 year old man suspected of brutal murder of a 17 year old girl, who is also his sister.

The suspect after killing the girl removed her private parts for rituals.

Mchinji police Public Relation Officer Moses Kajawa Nyirenda identify the deceased as Janet Chitedze aged 17 from Shadreck Village in the area of sub traditional authority Pitala in Mchinji district.

Sergeant Moses Kajawa Nyirenda the deceased on Sunday told her relations she was going to the garden to fetch for pumpkins but she did not return home.

Nyirenda further said after some hours they noticed that Janet Chitedze was missing that prompted them to report the matter to the village headman Shadreck who ordered the search of the girl.

During the search, around 10pm they found deceased lying on the ground a stone throw from her house.

According to the investigation which is still underway, police are suspecting that the killer was being told by some witch doctors to cut her sister’s private parts for him to be rich.

Sergeant Nyirenda further said the deceased had been removed eyes, right breast and her private part.

Nyirenda also said the deceased died due to loss of blood as the suspect was mutilating her.

  11. Politicians are encouraging the body parts business. Enact laws to ban Witch or traditional doctors right away. This is an emergency. The President ought to issue an emergency decree banning practices that rely on body parts. You need mandatory death sentence for anyone found meddling in body parts business.
    This is not any different from Chilobwe, where citizens were murdered for their blood.

  28. Its very simple to catch the man who killed this young girl. Use a phone that has a Map Search facility and type his name and click search. The phone will, locate him easily whether his is in Mozambique or anywhere in the World. The answer is on your finger tip. The Police should have such kind of mobile phones now for easy identification of such people. Those with Huwawei that TNM was selling some two to three years ago would help the police to find the culprit.

Mchinji is one of the most peaceful districts in Malawi.Food is plenty and people have crops to sell to make money. Why killing a sister like this ?

A few years ago a similar case happened in Blantyre where a man lured the son of his sister and killed him for enriching ritual purposes after a Chilomoni Witch Doctor conned him.   95. What will it take for some Malawians to ditch superstitious beliefs, abale inu? Seems these beliefs are behind the crimes involving removal of (private) body parts, including albinos’.
    It is not always reasonable to legislate against every aberrant behavior (like those emanating from witch craft and its associated beliefs), and expect positive results. But, maybe, legislation is the only way forward here. The government should seriously consider this.
    Meanwhile, sentences to the maximum of the law should be norm in judgments of cases involving this kind of crime. Our only hope for deterrence. Perpetrators should know that in stead of getting rich following certain crimes, based on witch craft beliefs, they will never walk freely outside prison walls. A really “anti-rich” end result! And an anti dote.
