Tembo lashes at MPs for grilling Lipenga

Leader of opposition and president of Malawi Congress Party (MCP)  John Tembo has described as a “useless exercise” the grilling of finance minister  Ken Lipenga by opposition legislators in the current 2012/2013 budget deliberations, arguing that the new administration of President Joyce Banda should not be answerable to the “mess” of the former DPP regime

Ironically, Tembo’s MCP parliamentarians including the party’s financial spokesperson Joseph Njobvuyalema together with opposition DPP MPs have been taking turns quizzing Lipenga on various allocations to government departments and ministries.

Speaking in an interview with public broadcaster MBC, Tembo took a swipe at the lawmakers for asking irrelevant questions.

Tembo: PP should not answer DPP sins

“Let the budget pass quickly, it’s a useless exercise quizzing finance minister.  PP government should answer on things they have done not on what they have found,” he said.

According to the veteran politician, President Banda’s  government is doing a commendable job in clearing the mess created by late Bingu wa Mutharika government  and should not be overburdened with questions meant to be answered by the DPP regime.

Lipenga has on several occasions been cornered by opposition MPs to explain on allocations and expenditures from previous budget which the PP led government inherited.
