Three cops, 2 civilians steal K6m at Colony Casino, arrested

Three police officers from Blantyre are likely to spend a few years rotting in jail after their desire for quick and dishonest riches turned into a misfortune.

The cops, together with their two civilian accomplices, are at Blantyre Police Station for allegedly conniving to rob Colony Club Casino located at Sunny Side in Blantyre.

Identified as Sergeant Difta Sitima and Constable Jonathan Mekiseni both from Chileka Police Station and Detective Sergeant Christopher Pangeti of Chirimba Police Unit are suspected to have stolen from the club K6 million at gun point.

Southern Region Police Spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa said on Wednesday the three law enforcers-turned- law breakers connived with Yasin Sinoya and Jikapo Joseph to rob the club on June 23, 2012.

Sinoya comes from Ngwaya village, T/A Chigaru in Blantyre while Joseph is from Kwanjana in the area of T/A Bvumbwe in Thyolo District.

“We arrested the three officers in connection with the robbery which occurred on June 23 this year at Colony Club Casino in Blantyre. They were arrested following another arrest of a civilian suspect Yasin Sinoya,” said Gondwa.

The police publicist said at the time of the robbery the three police officers were armed with two police pistols which they used during the raid.

The three cops were arrested on Tuesday and according to Gondwa no money has so far been recovered.

The five suspects are currently in custody at Blantyre Police and will remain there until our investigations are over, according to Gondwa.

They will appear in court after the investigations to answer charges of robbery with violence.
