Tigers maul Civil Sporting  to boot them out of FISD Cup

Civil Sporting Club has become the first top flight league club to bow out and wave goodbye to the 2017 Fisd Challenge Cup after going down 5-4 to Azam Tigers through post-match penalties in a match played at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe  on Tuesday.

The visitors Tigers were the first to score through Chisimbiwe Kanyika before the Civil Servants equalised later in the game through Innocent Tanganyika.

He scored from the spot after the referee awarded Civil a penalty following a hand ball by an Azam player Precius Phiri  in the penalty box.

After regulation time and the two teams tied at one all, the match went straight into penalties.

Azam converted all their spot kicks while Civil Sporting missed a single kick.

Tigers converted all their penalties through Clifton Kankhuni,  Precious Phiri,   Bonda Mpinganjira,  Hankey Machira and Innocent Msowoya while four players of Civil were on target Fletcher Bandawe,  Innocent Tanganyika,  Raphael Phiri and Ignicious Makoloni.

It was formers Azam Tigers player Patrick Thupi who broke the hearts of the Civil Servants after he had his spot kick saved by Azam Tigers advancing goalkeeper William Thole.

Tigers coach, Patrick Kulemeka was delighted with the win and praised his boys.

” We are  happy that the youngster which were used for the first time in the main team have shown strong character in this game,” he noted.

Civil Sporting Team Manager,  Gabriel Chirwa admitted that his team did not play as a team.

“We have played below form and it was difficult for us to put our act together hence the defeat at home,” he pointed out.

The inter-super league clubs battle in the Fisd Challenge Cup continues on Wednesday with a number of tricky fixtures.

Red Lions will play host to Master Security on Wednesday 4th October 2017 at the Balaka Stadium while in the Commercial City of Blantyre, Blantyre United will welcome Kamuzu Barracks.

In the Northern Region, there will be a total war between Mzuni FC who play host to Premier Bet Wizards.

The 2017 edition of the Fisd Cup which is in its second year since its inception was launched on Saturday in Dwangwa, Chitowe.
