Azam Tigers stepped up their preparations for the new Malawi season with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Silver Strikers at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday afternoon.
Defender Peter Cholopi headed in the opener from a corner kick after two minutes before Peter Katsonga and Emmanuel Chipatala added the second and third inside 30 minutes of the first half.
Silver upped their passing game after the introduction of Rodrick Gonani, Sam Gunda for Samuel Siaw and Chimwemwe Chisambi, but they just could not find a way past goalkeeper Nenani Juwayo, who was also substituted for Ernest Kakhobwe.
It was Tigers’ new coach Gerald Phiri Snr’s first win since taking over the reigns. He lost 3-0 in his first high-profile warm-up match against Big Bullets at the same venue earlier this month.
Silver now meet Mighty Be Forward Wanderers on Sunday during the Nomads’ launch of Be Forward sponsorship at the same venue.
