Tigresses, MTL and Escom on rampage in OG Issa

The OG Issa Southern Netball League reached the climax over the weekend as  big guns were on rampage with Bingu Tigresses  being  team of the week after a fruitful trip to Zomba.

Tigresses, who mauled Prison 130 baskets to 16 before demolishing Triggers 120-20 baskets in Zomba are now sitting at the summit of the OG Issa league table comfortably with Escom Sisters chasing them closely.

Bingu Tigresses coach Charles Mhango told Nyasa Times:“I am so delighted with the performance of my team. We will continue collecting points because they we are aware that our colleagues (Escom Sisters) will be on our neck.”

In Saturday’s encounter, Tigresses slippery shooter Sindi ‘Sniper’ Simutowe was toast of the day, as she netted more baskets as usual.

Apart from Simutowe; Tigresses were on marauding with the likes of Beatrice Kadango, Grace Mwafulirwa, young and upcoming Malawi Queens player  Lauren Ngwira.

On Sunday, third slot MTL Queens were also in a serious business, as they thrashed Chilomoni with 86-15 margin before clipping Rock Queens 91-11 in their second match.

MTL, were led by their vast experienced and new comers like Joana  Kachilika, Riyana Mtenje, Thandiwe Magaleta with Chikumbutso Banda and Emma Mzagada leading the slaughtering department.

In other games, Glass Bank won by 48-21 baskets to Chiradzulu.

However, MTL Queens played without their backbone Mary ‘Atcheya’ Waya, who is reported back to Tanzania where she works as Tanzania’s Taifa Queens consultant.

Meanwhile, Southern region netball league general secretary Anne Hanjahanja has commended all the participating teams for maintaining discipline and rules since the league kicked off.

“The league is going on well and no team has failed to fulfil a fixture. Let me also take an opportunity to salute umpires for doing a splendid job,” said Hanjahanja.

She however, stressed that the only worry is whether they will wrap up the first round in September as planned since Netball Association of Malawi is yet to provide them with a calendar of events.
