Times Group snubs ex Malawi News editor’s charity golf
Malawi’s leading media institution, Times Group on Friday snubbed Friends of Limbani Golf Tournament which was organised in support of its former editor Limbani Moya, who worked for the institution close to 20 years.
The company through its Chief Executive Officer Leonard Chikadya also cancelled a K100, 000 contribution towards an initiative.
Chikadya is said to have been annoyed with a an industrial dispute summons served on Times Group for unfair dismissal by the ailing journalist through his lawyer Lusungu Gondwe.
Times Group editors and other employees were conspicuously missing at the tournament including the prize presentation ceremony, which was graced by vice president Saulosi Chilima.
Chikadya ordered his charges not to participate and cover any the fundraising activities, including the teeing-off of a charity golf by the country’s vice president.
Inside sources claimed that Chikadya had committed to foot travel and accommodation expenses for its fired former Malawi News editor.
The charity golf tournament has raised K7.2milllion and there is a K3 million shortfall.
Companies, institutions and individuals that have supported the cause include Hotel victoria, Macra, Escom, National Bank of Malawi, FMB, FDH Bank, FD Communications, Escom’s PR Manager Kitty Chinseu-Chingota, Nyasa Times editorial director Thom Chiumia, Times Group managing editor Brian Ligomeka, Noel Lipipa, Lab Enterprises, Furkani Gani, journalists Jolly Ntaba and Idris Ali Nansah, among others.
