Times TV rolls out K1m ‘Ka Jive’ dance competition

Malawi’s leading printing and publishing house, Times Group, through Times TV, has rolled out a dancing competition that will see the winner pocketing K1 million.

The competition, dubbed Ka Jive, is aimed at promoting arts in the country, according to Times Group Commercial Manager Dumisani Ngulube.

Auditions for Ka Jive will be held on October 4 at Arts Cafe in the commercial capital, Blantyre and registration will be opened from Monday, September 22 at a fee of K4000.

The registration forms can be accessed at Times Group offices in Blantyre.

“As Times TV continues to provide best services to its clients, we also have believe that we have a role to play in promoting the country’s arts through different innovations and one of them is the Ka Jive dance contest,” said Ngulube.

He also said the competition will offer competitive money prize to ensure that the winner has enough starter pack to embark on his or her professional journey as a dancer.

According to Times Group, this is a new dawn of arts promotion in Malawi in as far as the art of dancing is concerned.

Times Group Media Manager Wanthaza Mughogho encouraged those with “dance movies” to register and stand a chance of winning a cool K1 million.

Mughogho claimed that the art of dancing has been sidelined for long time and much emphasis is put much on music, poetry and theatre.

“Times TV has come with Ka Jive, which will help in grooming professional dancers in the country.

“And we are set to do it in an exciting and professional way,” he said.

After the auditions, successful contestants will battle it out in first phase to held at Arts Cafe on October 18 2014 and will run for eight weeks with massive support of live performances from artists and fun from Times TV’s celebrities including Black Jak, Kenny Clips, Sam Kabambe, Rachel Mhango and Make Thyo.

Malawians really need to stop seeing every single initiative as the ‘end of times’ or ‘the devils work’, is this due to lack of exposure or just sheer stupidity? Not everything is ‘evil’ you know? This is a very good gesture by Times TV, we could at least appreciate instead of screaming bible verses. The pictures Nyasatimes has used are not from dancing competitions, use your brains! My only worry is the 4K fee, really Dumi? Why not reduce it to something more affordable (reduce the prize money too if need be), coz truth be told four thousand kwacha is… Read more »
