According to Mary Mhango, project coordinator, the committees that are comprised of different stakeholders, will oversee all the youth activities and ensure total youth participation in all governance issues at T/A level.

She said the committees will organize the youths so that they are formally equipped with skills, through trainings, that would help them understand how to carry out youth activities in their various areas.

“We want the youth to be active and participate in all development activities in their areas. They will also be equipped with good governance skills so that they hold their leaders accountable in various development activities,” Mhango said.

She said the inclusion of government extension workers, community, religious and development leaders in the committees will help the youths to refer their problems and get guidance and advices from experienced people in course of carrying out their activities.

Senior Chief Kasakula advised the youths in his area to utilize the skills imparted by organisation, saying, it would help them to grow responsibly as development conscious citizens.

He asked the youths not to expect handouts each time they work with organisations.

“Organisations like Timveni come here for development purposes and we should not demoralize the organisations by expecting money all the time. The projects are for our own good,” Kasakula pointed out.

The Senior Chief pledged his full support for the project and advised the newly established Youth Action Committee of the area to be active and creative to promote youth activities.

The Timveni “Enhancing Youth participation in Governance” project is funded by PLAN Malawi and will run for three years.
