Timveni takes Amplifying Children’s Voice Project to Karonga

Timveni Child and Youth Media Organization has launched its Amplifying Children’s Voice Project in Karonga District aimed at instilling entrepreneurial spirit in the youth.

Speaking on Friday during the launch, the organization’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ernest Makanda, said most youth in the country are not economically independent.

“We believe in self-commitment and we are calling for all the youths in the country who want to achieve in life but are currently jobless to go into entrepreneurship.

“This project is advocating for economic empowerment and education as a way of addressing forced marriages and child labor among other factors that are affecting our youths,” Makanda said.

The three-year project will be implemented in the areas of Senior Chiefs Wasambo and Mwilang’ombe with funding from Plan International.

Plan International’s Community Development Facilitator, Atusaye Nyondo, expressed concern that cases of child marriages and child labor remain rampant in the district despite efforts by different stakeholders to end the same.

The project was initially launched in Mzimba, Kasungu and Lilongwe in 2016. Apart from Karonga, it has also been taken to Nkhotakota and Mulanje this year.
