Traditional leader torches Jando initiation camps

Group village headman Nkula of Machinga has torched several jando initiation camps in his area after their program continued into the education calendar.

The new government academic year started on September 5 on Monday.

The traditional leader said he had forewarned his subjects that all initiation camps be closed by September 3 to prepare children go to schools.

“We have many uneducated young men and women in the area because some people think initiation camps are more important than formal education,” he said.

He said no one was injured in the pandemonium that followed the torching.

In Kasungu a Ngaliba, a person who perfomes the circumcision, is in court answering charges of manslaughter after a boy died of his penis woulds after the botched circumcision.
