Truck driver murdered in Nchalo

Chikhwawa Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Sande Nguluwe, has confirmed the murder of Maxwell Phillip Chafulatira, a truck driver at Kokotowa investments.

“Yes I would like to confirm that on Tuesday, we (Police) were tipped that there was a dead body with knife wounds, lying in a canal at the gate of area 4 in Nchalo.

“After being tipped we went to the scene where we indeed found the remains of the said person, which we took to Chikhwawa District Hospital,” said Sande.

Sande said the deceased was kidnapped by unknown people who tricked him that they wanted him to assist them with transportation of their goods.

“The deceased was a truck driver and was driving a truck bearing registration number KK 4828, who came here to load sugar which he was supposed to transport to Beira in Mozambique. His truck was loaded by the night of Monday, August 27, 2012 ready for departure the following day when he was approached by 3 gentlemen at around 19:00hrs.

“The 3 unknown people were driving a white Nissan bearing a foreign number plate and they told the deceased that they have got a parcel which they wanted to take to their grandmother at Mpemba at a fee. A move which the late gave a nod to and left together to collect the said parcel and that was how he had gone missing,” Sande said.

The person remained missing up to Tuesday afternoon when some people tipped the police about the dead body which police identified as the missing truck driver.

Managing director of Kokotowa Investments, George Nyanyale, where the deceased was working expressed concern over the tragic death of the driver.

“I am really touched with such a death, because it has come at unexpected moment and honestly I don’t know what those murderers were up to, because according to the Police there was nothing taken away from the deceased expect his phone and car keys,” complained Nyanyale.

The three suspects are currently at large and police is appealing to the general public to report to any police any tip they might led to the arrest of the suspects.

The deceased, 38, hailed from Chikulunthiro Village, Traditional Authority Chaseka in Lilongwe.
