Two Malawi netball stars join Tanzania club on loan

Two Blue Eagles Sisters players Rose Chinyama and Florence Mvula have joined Tanzania netball team Filbert Bayi on a month long loan deal.

Blue Eagles coach Sam Kanyenda said the deal would be finalised this week when the transfer fee would be agreed.

“They left the country on Tuesday last week to discuss personal terms. In principle the two were happy with what they were offered and they are expected to sign the contract,” he said.

Kanyenda said the two were identified following their exploits in the just ended GOtv Netball Champions League when the Nankhaka based Cops finished third in the five team competition.

Chinyama was among the players nominated for the best centre court award while Mvula was outstanding in defence.

“We are not surprised that the two have been invited to Tanzania. Both Rose and Florence have been performing well lately,” he said.

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary Carol Bapu said they were aware of the deal and the association was expecting to pocket a certain percentage from the transfer fee once the deal is sealed.

“We have allowed them to travel to Tanzania to feature for the team during the national championship. We expect the two players to return by mid September,” she said.

Bapu said the move is an indication that Malawi players were marketable.
