Two Olympic Bakery employees nabbed for theft by trick

Two Olympic Bakery employees have been arrested for allegedly using Police name to solicit pay from a client.

Police Public Relations Officer Edith Kachotsa told Malawi News Agency that they are holding in custody Isaac Kambalame, a salesman and Molosoni Mlambuzi a driver for allegedly trying to tarnish the image of the Malawi Police Service.

Kachotsa explained on January 19 a certain man contracted Kambalame and Mlambuzi to transport refrigerators to Blantyre. The men agreed on K15,000 as payment which they were given.

Kachotsa said to the dismay of the man whom she could not reveal his name citing security reasons, the two demanded an extra 20,000 upon arrival in Blantyre claiming that they had used their earlier payment as a bribe to Police Officers at Thyolo Number One Roadblock.

The man is said to have made enquiries at Thyolo Police to establish the truth as Kambalame and Mlambuzi were demanding more money.

According to Kachotsa Investigations revealed that the officers were involved in unscrupulous act and the two were promptly arrested.

She could not also divulge the names of the Police Officers in question to have manned the roadblock that day for security reasons.

“We are keeping in custody two Olympic employees for allegedly trying to tarnish the name of the Police Service.

‘The two were arrested following an enquiry by a man who was being pressured to pay extra money for his refrigerators which were being transported to Blantyre.

“Kambalame and Mlambuzi told the man the payment he made has been used to bribe a Police Officer however our investigations revealed it was a well laid plan to extort money from him using our name. I cannot however divulge the details of the man and Police Officers for security reason,” she explained.

Kambalame and Mlambuzi will appear before the court to answer charge of attempting to obtain money by false pretence contrary to section 319 of the Penal Code.

Kambalame, 27 comes from Patsani village Traditional Authority Kapeni, while Mlambuzi 42 comes from Chilobwe in the same Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre District.

So what does this have to do with Olympic Bakery?

I do not have any interest in Olympic Bakery, but Nyasatimes, your reporting is tarnishing the image as if what these people did was done in relation to Olympic Bakery

I don’t get it. You admit that officers were bribed and then in turn arrest these people for telling the truth? Is this the correct way am getting the story?
