U-16 players, coaches shine in Copa Coca-Cola: FAM’s Sangala delighted

Two players from FIFA/FAM U-16 league Rodrick Speak and Festus Duwe plus two  other coaches namely Patrick Chitekwere and Abdul Razak Duwa have shined in the just ended Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) 2017 Copa Coca-Cola competition.

Sangala: Flicker of hope

The Mulanje U-16 team star, Speak,  became the 2017 Copa Coca Cola top goalscorer while Duwe of  Balaka U-16 was named player of the tournament respectively.

In the other hand coach for  Balaka, Duwa and Mangochi United coach Chitekwere both from FIFA/FAM U-16 league become the winning coaches after helping their South East Education Division (SEED) to become the 2017 champions after beating Central West Education Division (CWED) 2 nil.

In an interview with Nyasa Times , FAM Youth Football Development officer James Sangala said he is very much “delighted”  with the
performance shown by the players and coaches which he said its a sign that the FIFA/FAM league is being run professionally and  getting grow each and every year.

“This is what I have been waiting to see and I am proud of these players and coaches. I have confidence now that one day our league
will produce national team players,” said Sangala.

Last month a total five players from FIFA/FAM U-16 league were included in the Malawi U-17 national team  final squad which
participated in the 2017 Cosafa 2017 tournament in Mauritius.

Recently Be Forward Wanderers has signed Phalombe U-16 player Richard Tchemula who is now playing in the reserve side.

As top goalscorer, Speak received  K50 000 while Duwa got K80 000.
