UDF convention live on Zodiak, Joy radios
Malawi’s opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) national convention slated for Tuesday in Blantyre which will select a National Chairman and 2014 presidential candidate will be covered live on private radio stations, Joy and Zodiak.
UDF deputy publicity secretary Ken Ndanga told Nyasa Times that they have paid “live coverage” of the convention to Zodiak and Joy radio , saying the conference can also be followed through Zodiak’s internet streaming.
“The UDF national convention will be covered live on Zodiak Radio and Joy Radio,” said Ndanga.
During the convention Minister of Economic Planning Atupele Muluzi, Moses Dossi , George Nga Mtafu and Ruth Takomana will compete for party National Chairman.
There will also be stiff competition in other positions as former Chief Executive Officer of Malawi Electricity Supply Cooperation (Escom) Kandi Padambo and Trade Unionist Austin Kalimanjira will tussle with incumbent UDF Secretary General (SG) Kennedy Makwangwala for his position .
At the convention, delegates will elect national treasurer, first and deputy national chairpersons, presidential candidate, regional governors and campaign directors among other top positions.
The convention is in preparation for the 2014 general elections. UDF, under Bakili Muluzi, won the country’s first multi-party elections in 1994 and remained in power until 2004.
The party has roped in Unandi Banda of the National Election Systems Trust (Nest) as presiding officer at the convention.
