UDF sued for MK70,000 unpaid booze bill

A Mzuzu based small scale bar owner has asked the United Democratic Front (UDF) to repay a MK69, 450.00 bill for booze the party’s Yellow Youth for Change (YYC),Mzuzu University wing imbibed on or about the 14th April, 2013 at Mzuzu University Hall.

Morton Gondwe, who has since closed the bar, has unsuccessfully sought his cash to no avail.

Now through lawyers Jivason and Company, Gondwe has now given UDF a seven day ultimatum to pay MK69, 450.00 plus MK100,000 indemnity costs.

“We are Legal Practitioners for Mr. Morton Gondwe. Our client avers that UDF through Vitumbiko Gondwe, a member of the party, contracted our client to bring beer at the launch of Yellow Youth for Change (YYC).

“The party function took place immediately after Honourable Atupele Muluzi had addressed people in Mzuzu. The students plus other supporters of your party consumed all the beer that our client had brought and they told our client that Honourable Atupele Muluzi had already paid for the beer.

“Surprisingly, our client has not received the money up to this day,” wrote Jivason and Company in a letter dated 29 July 2013 to the UDF Regional Governor (North).

Jivason and Company further said if they do not receive the said total sum within the period, “We shall immediately commence legal proceedings against the Registered Trustees of the United Democratic Front, where we shall claim the total sum plus damages for loss of business and further legal costs.”
