Uladi angers Salima chiefs for diverting maize

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Uladi Mussa is under fire from chiefs in his home district for allegedly diverting about 750 bags of maize meant for Salima Central Constituency to donate to a place of his choice.

According to the chiefs 1500 bags of Maize were destined for the constituency but Mussa intervened to divert half of the bags to unidentified place.

A visibly angry Group Village Headman, Kalonga said chiefs are demanding answers from the Home Affairs minister on why he decided to interfere in the constituency affairs yet he does not belong there.

”We are very angry with Uladi Mussa behaviour and we need answers as soon as possible before we act. We were told that we will receive 1500 bags of maize but we were surprised to see we got half because he (Mussa) took other bags” Group Village Headman Kalonga told Nyasa Times.

The chiefs also accused Mussa who is also Peoples Party (PP) Vice President of supporting independent candidate for the area, Sakina Chingomanji while sidelining fellow PP candidate, Ruth Njanji.

” We know that Uladi Mussa is doing this because he is not in good terms with shadow candidate Njanji, but his behaviour should not make people suffer,” said the Chief.

He lamented that the maize the area received will not be enough as the constituency is in dire need of food aid.

However, Mussa in an interview denied claims by the chiefs, saying he has never intervened in the affairs of other people’s constituency.

“It’s not true, there are other people who want to tarnish my image. I don’t interfere in the affairs of other constituency I have my own to help, “added Mussa.

The chiefs have said they are planning to meet President Joyce Banda to inform her on the development.

Salima central constituency has about 600 Village Headmen and a population of approximately 40 000 people according to the chiefs which means 750 bags of maize will not be enough for the area.

President Banda is distributing Maize across the country to help those in need of food aid.
