Leader of People’s Party (PP) in parliament Uladi Mussa has sharply contradicted the party’s administrative secretary on the official party stance of a coalition with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP.
Mussa said in parliament that his party will be in coalition with the MCP during the 2019 polls.
He said the coalition would boot the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) out of government at the 2019 ballot box as it will be a force to reckon with.
People’s Party MPs were seen chanting songs in praise of MCP president Lazarus Chakwera in the House along with their MCP counterparts. This heightened speculation that the MCP and PP were secretly hammering a coalition to oust DPP and UDF out of power in the 2019 polls.
However, PP administrative secretary Ken Msonda said the party has no plans to be in coalition with the oldest party in Malawi.
He said PP works with Chakwera in parliament as leader of opposition.
“PP is supporting ideologies of Dr Chakwera as our leader of opposition, not that there is any coalition,” said Msonda.
Msonda said it is the duty of MCP and PP to work together in parliament to force government put in place programmes that should put Malawi out of its economic mess.
