Uladi says PP gears for convention even if Joyce Banda remains in self-exile
Earstwhile ruling Peoples Party (PP) acting president Uladi Mussa has said the party will hold a convention this year with or without founding president Joyce Banda who is in self imposed exile.
Mussa said this in a radio program on Sunday.
“The Peoples Party Constitution says we should hold the convention this year and we shall do that,” said Mussa.
He said all party positions, including that of president will be up for grabs at the convention. Mussa was however tight lipped to say whether Banda will attend the convention and participate in the elections.
He however conceded Banda might not be returnig back to Malawi anytime soon.
Banda left Malawi soon after President Peter Muthrika won the 2014 elections, poll results she failed to annul.
Politicians in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) say she is running away from Malawi for plundering public resources in the infamous K30 billion, an allegation she denies. PP will be the first party to hold convention in the country ahead of the 2019 polls.
Currently the party is in working relationship with the main opposition, the Malawi Congress Party(MCP).
