Unima council appoints Professor Sajidu as new Vice Chancellor

University of Malawi has appointed Professor Samson Sajidu as new Vice Chancellor.

He takes over from Professor Al Mtenje who has been acting.

According to a communication from the office of the acting registrar, Prof. Sajidu’s appointment as the new vice-chancellor of the UNIMA is with effect from 1 April, 2022.

“Please take note that Council has guided that the outgoing Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Al Mtenje and the incoming Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samson Sajidu should work together in the month of April, 2022 for purposes of orderly handovers.

“Therefore, invite all of you to join me in congratulating Prof. Sajidu for being appointed to the position of vice-chancellor.

“Let us render our full support as he embarks on his new tour of duty,” reads the communication in part.

Prof. Sajidu becomes the 10th vice-chancellor of the university being preceded by Prof. John Kalenga Saka.

The first vice-chancellor was Dr Ian Michael 1965–1973.
