In December 2015 Niffat was diagnosed with Hyperproctanemia (prolactinoma). Prolactinoma is a non-cancerous tumor that grows in the brain and if not treated earlier it can cause cancer.

According to a press statement, the doctors have expressed that she is at higher risk of the tumor becoming cancerous due to breast leakage that she has been experiencing.

“She has been having these symptoms for over six months and is currently on general treatment and the advice of doctors is to seek treatment in South Africa. The aim of the donations and fundraising is to pay for further treatment and full diagnosis through a 1.5m `1testela MRI scan (higher technology than the MRI available in Malawi) and exact treatment according to the scan and other test results,” reads the statement in part.

“I’ve known Niffat on a personal and professional level. Throughout the time I have known her to be dedicated to her modelling career and everything she puts her heart to. Just like they say strong women wear their pain like they do their stilettos.

“No matter how much it hurts all you see is the beauty. It’s with no doubt that Niffat throughout the time that she has been sick wore her pain like stilettos. Perhaps that’s where she gets her strength from,” said Fawzia Osman of Mkanda Accessorize.

In her remarks, Zilanie, Creative Director and Founder of FAME said when one asks for help, we must come together because health issues affected us all.

“In this emerging fashion industry we don’t work in silos, we are a business family together. Therefore when one of our own asked for help, and on a health issue that has affected us all, we came together. No boob must be left behind,” she said.

“Fashion United against Breast Cancer” is an incentive of a group of creative industry stakeholders who have come together to raise funds for Niffat Lokosang, a well-established model in the Malawi fashion industry.

The event will feature designers Lily Alfonso of LA, Nellie Donga of Nell’s secret possessions, Felicia  Ngoma of Nyasa Brands, Fawzia Osman of Mkanda accessorize, Clement Sato of  ZaClemoh, Lulu Mhango of Mis Pearl and Models that are Niffat’s friends.

Performances by Tay Grin, Kwame Bandawe (Deputy Mayor of Lilongwe), Sawako Nevin, EmmQ, Kell Kay and Gwamba.

Niffat is a 28 year old model who started her career in 2008 and has walked for all the designers showcasing at the event. She has also posed for many photo shoots, advertising campaigns and walked the runway for FAME, Credo Events, Tshwane Fashion week in South Africa, other African catwalks and many others.
