University of Malawi Council bows down to workers demand:  Agrees 10% salary increment

The University of Malawi (UNIMA)  Council has  bowed down to pressure and agreed to give a 10% salary increment to all support staff in the University.

This was confirmed through a  statement co-signed by the Council Chairperson Rev. Billy Gama and University Workers Trade Union (UWTU) President Mike Namandwa.

“The University of Malawi Council is pleased to inform all staff, students and the general public that the issue of industrial sit in by the UWTU has been amicably resolved,” reads part of the statement.

The statement further states that the Council will give the increment with arrears from 1st June 2017.

The UWTU has since agreed to return to work on Monday, October 22, 2018.

Meanwhile, the Council has applauded UWTU for its commitment to resolve the dispute and for the spirit of discussions leading to the mutual agreement thereof.

someone will answer this on the judgement day cos the bible says muyezo umene ukumuyezera mzako nawenso uzayezedwa nawo, why taking your fellow human beings like slave who have no say. But some one will speak for us. Pls be patriotic and love one another you the Unima Council.

Who must get a higher percentage in UNIMA? I suppose the lowest paid, that is how it should be. Why are well educated people unable to see this. I only happens in UNIMA and for so many years, Why hate your own junior staff?

These people they need Jesus I mean University Council, Government of Malawi approved their 10% in 2017 -2018 Finacial year, and why this office segregate only suport staff? I learn that in July this office gave only Lectures with arrears from 2017 up to 2018 and when Adminstrators heard about this they went again to University office to claim their dues and is the same office also authorised the money for only Adminstrators not suport staff. why affecting the increment to academic staff only, yet government increased the salaries to all. useless UNIMA council. kufuna kuipisa boma basi
