Vote for development oriented candidates—ACB
Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) official has asked people in Thyolo to usher into power development oriented candidates on May 21 2019.
Senior public education officer at ACB, Patrick Thole, made the remarks on Tuesday during a meeting Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) held for chiefs in Traditional Authority (T/A) Msabwe in the district to provide communities with knowledge of voting process.
“Do not be deceived with hand outs. That is corruption and candidates involved are threats to sustainable development of the district. Socio-economic expansion matters so vote into power those with development oriented manifestos,” said Thole.
He also urged the chiefs to level the field of campaigning for voters to appreciate plans of all candidates.
In his remarks, assistant civic and voter education officer (ACVEO) from MEC, Evancie Afati, encouraged registered voters to turn out in large numbers on polling day.
“It is time to exercise democratic right to vote and participate in public life. Make sure you cast your votes to elect leaders to run affairs of the country for the next five years. Chiefs should intensify knowledge of the voting process among their subjects,” he said.
One of the traditional leaders, representing T/A Msabwe, Group Village Head (GVH) Mzundu, commended MEC for the meeting, saying the knowledge gained will enable them help people make informed electoral decisions
