VP Ansah joins Ngoni royalty at colourful Umhlangano

Vice President Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah graced the 2026 Umhlangano wa Maseko Ngoni cultural celebration at the Gomani Chikuse Memorial Grounds in Nkolimbo Village, Ntcheu District, as thousands gathered for one of Malawi’s most vibrant traditional festivals.

Upon her arrival, the Vice President made her way to the main platform, where she greeted Ngwenyama Gomani V and Inkosi M’mbelwa V – a moment that sparked excitement among the crowd as the annual celebrations reached their climax.

Celebrating ‘Unity is Strength’

This year’s ceremony was held under the theme “Ubunye Bunamandla,” meaning “Unity is Strength,” placing particular emphasis on the importance of unity and togetherness among the Ngoni people and the wider Malawian community.

About the Umhlangano

The Umhlangano wa Maseko Ngoni is an annual cultural gathering that brings together traditional leaders, communities and visitors from across Malawi and beyond to celebrate and preserve the rich traditions, customs and identity of the Maseko Ngoni people.

Held at the historic Gomani Chikuse Memorial Grounds, the event has grown into one of the country’s most prominent cultural showcases, featuring traditional dress, dance and ceremony rooted in Ngoni heritage.
