Wa Jeffrey insists North Malawi can think of producing  president in 2024

Secretary General (SG) of the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Greselder Jeffrey hs said the Northern Region should not be misled by the revamp sentiments of Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), saying her party will continue holding the balance of power even in the region.

Wa Jeffrey: 2019 is for Mutharika to continue ruling maybe think of 2024

She challenged the party’s membership in the Northern Region to produce a DPP presidential candidate in 2024 when President Peter Mutharika will Constitutionally retire.

Jeffrey  was speaking a political rally held at Mzokoto Primary School ground in the area of Traditional Authority Mwankhunikira in Rumphi district.

The DPP secretary general took the opportunity to put a positive spin to the much condemned ‘tribalistic’ remarks she made in Karonga recently where she is said to have declared that the Northern and Central regions will never produce the country’s president, but remain hand clappers for a leader from the Southern Region.

Said Jeffrey: “I call upon the [Northern] region to rally behind President Peter Mutharika because he has you in mind. Let him rule till 2024, from there, we would choose another president from the party, possibly from the Northern Region.

She said government, through the leadership of Mutharika, is committed to improve living standards of the country’s citizens through sustainable development across the country.

“Government is doing tremendous development in the northern region such as the construction of Njakwa- Livingstonia road, Rumphi Teachers Training College (TTC), Rumphi stadium and several others,” said Jeffrey.

Jeffrey who is also Nkhotakota-South Member of Parliament added that: “No region will remain undeveloped under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leadership because socio economic development of the country is its priority.”

She said President Peter Mutharika’s 20-member Cabinet comprises three from the Northern Region, notably Goodall Gondwe (Finance, Economic Planning and Development), Jappie Mhango (Transport and Public Works) and Grace Chiumia (Home Affairs and Internal Security) besides having several top officials, including principal secretaries.

Jeffrey also urged people of Rumphi Central Constituency to support the DPP- led government to ensure continued development by voting for an MP from the ruling party in the 2019 polls.

The Nkhotakota legislator also donated four bicycles to all DPP constituency governors to ease transportation challenges as they carry out party activities in the district.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional Governor for the North, Kenneth Sanga, hailed the Secretary General for the donation, saying the gesture would enhance the party’s strength at grass root level.

“We believe that the donation of these bicycles has come at the right time as the party is growing in the areas where voters reside, therefore, constituency governors will easily be interacting with the people at grass root,” Sanga said.
