Wakuda brands Chilumpha ‘arrogant politician’

President Joyce Banda’s advisor on Communication and Political Affairs, Wakuda Kamanga has added his voice to the ruling People’s Party chorus of blasting its former vice-president (Central Province) Dr.CassimChilumpha, calling him a selfish and arrogant person.

Speaking to journalists in Lilongwe on Friday, Kamanga said Chilumpha is a self-centred politician who could not be trusted in PP.

Chilumpha was elected at the party’s convention as vice president while Kamanga was appointed on the post two weeks ago by the President.

The Nkhotakota South Constituency lawmaker first told Nyasa Times on Boxing Day that he had resigned from the party.

“You can’t afford to be selfish in politics, it is very unfortunate that Dr Chilumpha has chosen to leave in this manner,” Kamanga said.

When told that Chilumpha’s move followed the remarks made by PP Deputy National Director Annie Chibwana who told the people in Nkhotakota south that the President favours Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs FahadAssani ahead of PP’s primary elections in the area, Kamanga said the  party is not aware about that.

“Listen to me, this person is a very junior in the party. She is just a small person,” he said.

Chilumpha, who has served as Member of Parliament for Nkhotakota South for close to 20 years now, already paid his K50 000 PP nomination fees but said he will not contest in the primaries which have already been undemocratic in its preparations.

Assani alleged that Chilumpha’s resignation is “because the going has been tough for him [in Nkhotakota South Constituency].”

While PP acting secretary-general Paul Maulidi claimed Chilumpha “hasn’t been active as expected of a vice-president.”

Political scientist Dr. Augustine Magolowondo noted that there  is “a clear indication that PP just like other parties, is failing to resolve internal conflicts.”
