Wanderers scored as early as 2 minutes into the first half with Zakaaaka on the score sheet following a clever run by Wadabwa.

The Lali Lubani boys,  who were without Rafiq Namwera and Boston Kabango due to suspensions, were a marvel to watch  throughout  the first half  but failed to convert  their chances into goals.

Luka Milanzi wasted a number of scoring opportunities in the last quaterfinal of the half and no wonder he was sacrificed for Ibrahim Sadiki soon after recess.

Despite the change, it was Kamuzu Barracks who posed a lot of danger in the last half of the match. The Lilongwe based soldiers could have gone level at the hour mark but Harvey Mkacha’s shot was cleared on the line by Harry Nyirenda.

Wadabwa then made it 2 -0 towards the end of the match.

The towering striker headed in an Ibrahim Sadiki free kick that was enough to take his team to the quaterfinals of the competition.

Speaking to Nyasa Times after the game, Wanderers Team Manager Steve Madeira said they deserve to be in the quaterfinals.

“We deserve to be in the next level occasion this competition. We fought against a strong Kamuzu Barracks side having beaten them again a week ago. Coming to this game within a space of 7 days was tricky but I thank our players and Coach for the job well done. This squad is pure class and we have more confidence going to the next game,” said Madeira.

In his remarks, Coach for Kamuzu Barracks Billy Phambala said his charges were at fault for giving Wanderers a lot of freedom.

“We were at fault for giving Wanderers a lot of freedom. Their first goal came like a shocker and it really affected my players. But we wish Wanderers all the best in the quaterfinals,” said Phambala.

The win means Wanderers will meet Prison United in the quaterfinals on Saturday at the Balaka stadium.

Other fixtures in the competition will see Nyasa Big Bullets meet MAFCO at Chitowe ground on Saturday.

Silver Strikers will travel to Balaka on Sunday to face Red Lions while Wizards will entertain Mangochi Police at MDC Stadium.
