Wanderers extend lead, beat Wizards: Malawi TNM Super League
Mighty Be Forward Wanderers on Saturday afternoon beat Premier Bet Wizards 1-0 widen the lead with eight points ontop of second placed Silver Strikers.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, Wizards posed no threat leaving Wanderers goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa with little work to do.
Wanderers found their best chance in the 17th minute but Jafali Chande’s powerful header from a Joseph Kamwendo beautifully curved
cross from a free was denied entry into the net by the crossbar.
But Chande scored the loan goal in the 28th minutes after he was set by Esau Kanyenda.
He chested the ball down before releasing a thunderous shot from close range giving Wizards goalkeeper no chance.
Despite conceding the goal, the visitors continued to dominate the proceeding through some nice interchanging of passes from Simeon Singa, Patrick Phiri and Yamikani Osman.
Immediately after recess, Wizards brought in Nikiza Aimable who replaced Blessings Phiri.
Wanderers also brought in Khumbo Ng’ambi, Foster Namwera and RafiqNamwera replacing Injured Esau Kanyenda, Harry Nyirenda and Precious Sambani.
Wizards breathed fire after the substitutions but failed to unlock the Nomads tight defence marshalled by Lucky Malata alongside Ted Sumani and Stanley Sanudi.
The equaliser never came until the referee blew the final whistle marking the end of the game.
Speaking in a post match interview, Wizards Assistant Coach Simeon Kapuza blamed his charges for failing to utilize the chances created.
“We really played well but we never utilized the chances ending up been punished. We have lost three points today but we will continue to fight since we still have more games,”said kapuza.
On his part, Wanderers Head Coach Yasin Osman was delighted with the three points gained but admitted his team’s performance wasn’t impressive.
“Wizard played a good game and we struggled because we never kept the ball enough. All in all I am happy that we have three points in the
bag,” said Osman.
With the win, the Nomads have now increased the number of their points to 50 from 47 eight above second place Silver Strikers.
They will be heading to the northern region to face Moyale Barracks and Chitipa United next weekend.
