Wanderers face punishment for fans pitch invasion in Carlsberg Cup glory
Mighty Be Forward Wanderers face a breach of disciplinary regulations in relation to their supporters who invaded the pitch after Saturday’s Carlsberg Cup final against Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
The Nomads won the cup through post match penalties.
Soon after Wanderers goalkeer Richard Chipuwa save the Silver’s foward Mathewss Sibale’s decisive spot kick, some of the escatic Nomads fans in their traditional blue and white scarves, jumped the perimeter face, leaving part of it dismantled.
Many fans ran onto the turf to celebrate the victory.
They managed to evade stewards and danced in the ground with some taking pictures with players.
Wanderers meanwhile will face sanctions following the pitch invasions. It is likely they will receive a hefty fine.
Sports Court is reportedly to have asked Football Association of Malawi for a report on the damage on the fence.
