Wanderers players unhappy with Kanyenda’s ‘decision’ to offload skipper

Mighty Wanderers captain Nafe Msasa has been  released from the club not necessarily for “gross indiscipline” but for taking to task the club’s executive committee over players’ game bonuses and up keep allowances dating back to 2010’2011 season, some senior players have revealed.

The players, who spoke to Nyasa Times on condition of anonymity, faulted the David Kanyenda’s led executive committee for not being candid and sitting on the truth regarding Msasa’s firing from the club.

One of the senior players claimed that the club still owes them game bonuses from the past three seasons and that the executive committee has always been non-committal on the matter.

As such, Msasa, as captain, took advantage of the meeting the club convened following their recent back to back loses to publicly press for their arrears, a thing, according to the players, did not please the club’s general secretary David Kanyenda.

Msasa, who was one of the longest and regular members of the Nomads’ playing squad, is also said to have told some individuals that were not supposed to be in the executive committee and that they were not doing anything to advance the welfare of players.

“It’s not question of gross indiscipline or getting drunk here, our executive failed to appreciate the player’s grievances. Nafe Msasa called the spade by its name; he did not bend the truth, but to the executive, this turned out be gross indiscipline,” said one of the players.

The players said the development has instilled the spirit fear among the players and the executive committee, especially Kanyenda is becoming untouchable.

“Captains are there as a bridge between executive committee, technical panel and players themselves, but club wants individuals who can be easily gagged and manipulated,” added another player.

Kanyenda, who could not tell actual crimes the player committed, maintained that discipline is one of the cornerstones of success in every profession, adding that indiscipline players will be uprooted from the club.

“Some players think they are Mr. Wanderers. We have fired Nafe Msasa and Anthony Banda because of gross indiscipline. We have also strongly cautioned other players,” said Kanyenda.

Kanyenda vowed in separate interview that in as far as he is still the club’s general secretary, Nafe and Anthony will never play for Mighty Wanderers.

“We are done with them. As administrator of the club, I will never allow Nafe and Anthony to play for Wanderers again,” said Kanyenda.
