Wife stabs drunken hubby for failure to provide for family: Bizarre news in Malawi

A 30 year old man is battling for his life at Kasungu district hospital after he was stabbed on the head by his wife for failure to provide for his family.

Edna Mzingwitsa, Kasungu police publicist said the incident happened over the weekend and the wife has since been arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm, a serious charge for wounding another person.

Mzingwitsa said Gift Nkhoma had gone for a drinking spree without leaving money for his family.

“This irked the wife who packed his belongings and left the house for her parents home in protest,” said Mzingwitsa.

She said upon returning home, Nkhoma discovered his wife had left the house and decided to follow her.

When Nkhoma reached the woman’s home, the police publicist said, a fight ensued that led to the wife allegedly hacking the husband on the head leaving an open wound.

Nkhoma comes from Kasambwe village in chief Kabudula in Lilongwe but the family settled in chief Santhe’s area in Kasungu where they worked as tenants on a tobacco farm.

  1. Let me borrow PP’s Ken Msonda words: Kill the husband for abusing the wife. Azibambo a chi Firika kuzolowera kuzunza Mkazi ndi Ana pakhomo.

  2. Becks, all women want to work but it is men who have created conditions for women not to work and be educated. Men, especially in Africa are interested in maintaining power and control over women and the only way to do so is to deny them empowerment tools so that women sit at home, look after children. As a socioeconomic construct it helps men have more sexual control including drinking excessively and sleeping with prostitutes while the women are at home. Indeed, this cultural context drains women’s and girls self esteem to the extent that they do bot aspire to be highly educated and to work. In addition, because of socio-cultural expectations, girls and women are pressured with household chores and cultural demands to get married early. In the end women remain in poverty and even those girls and women who get educated and work, they fall into the trap of still depending on men. Until oppressive cultural expectations on women and girls end, men will continue to be abusive. So the solution is for girls and women to insist on being educated, work or do business and stop depending on men. In fact, all the stupidity and pompousness of men and boys will end. The process towards that has already started but it is slow. Beck be assured that male dominance is weakening and your question will be fully answered.

  3. @ Becks, it’s not even stupid and foolish. A man as head of his family is supposed to provide for his family. A woman is there to help. How can someone claim that he is heading the family which he can’t provide for?

  4. That is self defense from abusive, selfish and completely useless husband.
    One of many in malawi.
    This is self defense.

  5. What a title!! Please, journalists, be serious. Story and the title do not talk to each other.
The facts are clear in the story, the wife stabbed the husband in self defense because she was evidently provoked and not because the husband did not provide.

  8. Marriage z one word but feels lyk a death sentence coz it means u wil be together 4 the rest of yo lyf, so choose wisely guyz!

  9. The woman left peacifully from the irresponsible husbands home. Then this stupid man falls her to her home to add more anger on the. Wife. He reaped what he sawed. Realese the womane she is innocent

  10. Its not cheap to take some ones daughter, and use her at bed by the name of marriadge and then end up in responsible, za chamba eti, by not surppoting her it means you dont need her, so she left and you follow her, just to fuk her? bullshit!!!!!!

  11. She was extremely tired and sick! Marriage is such a good partnership with all informal contractual obligations that needs to be strictly adhered to. Unfortunately many especially men enter into this partnership without realizing what they are up to. As a man, you need to provide your family’s needs: your time, care, food, intimacy and just all those that your wife deems you to afford vice versa.
Lero ndi izo, amukhapa for taking women as sex objects and nothing more. The scar will remind him always if he recovers that women need respect not za uchitsiru zogona ndi akazi ena kapena kumwa mwa uchidakhwa!

  12. I agree with Number I. If you try to find a right husband / wife, you will never find any. Just strive to make your family succesful…………To bad for the stubbed one.

  13. Excessive drinking men are generally worthy more trouble, they are relatively poor in almost every thing, from providing for their families to even satisfying their spouses in bed.
Such men are not worthy to take somebody’s daughter for a wife. They are better off the prostitutes they find at their drinking places.
No wonder when I was still a maiden, and a man proposes marriage, my first question was always, “Do you drink sir? , and most of them their response was always, “I am a moderate drinker,” for me the rate at which one drinks was not important, its either you drink or you don’t. Whether you only drink when there is funeral in the family or on new year’s eve, no difference at all.
Another disadvantage I picked up on drunkards apart from financial adverseness is that, marrying an alcoholic is like entering into a polygamy, but to the same man, as he displays two different characters when sober and drunk.
I therefore urge my fellow young women who value peace and intends to get into marriage, stay away from men who drink, they are trouble.

Koma even if I just “sip”, once in a while, I’m a drunkard? And not worth a lady’s hand?

  15. well done mayi, self defence imeneyo. malawian men refuse to grow up. it’s so irritating to see a grown man of productive age collapsed by the roadside, drunk on win and red deer and covered in his own piss.

To marry is to take one of the greatest risks in life. Where there is an interaction of two or more, misunderstandings will likely ensue. And ‘enemies’, for hours or days e.t.c.; you become.

Marriage is the only war in which you sleep with the enemy, right beside you in bed. This is risky: at night while in your shuteye, the enemy can do anything – stab you, oil-boil you, or just crush your head. Anyway . . .

“Risks must be taken in life, since the greatest risk in life is to take no risk at all.” – Leo Buscaglia

Just strive to make your marriage successful not just by trying to find the right person but also being the right person yourself.
Otherwise, what has happened to m’bale yu is bad! Really bad!
