Wins for BB, Civo, Mafco,Tigers: Malawi TNM Super League

Civo United, Big Bullets, Mafco and Azam Tigers have collected maximum points in the TNM Super League after defeating their opponents in games played Saturday, October 27, 2012.

Leading the hunt were Bullets, the ‘People’s team,’ who recovered from their 2-1 shock defeat against Super Eagles in the Carlsberg Cup to crash Kabwafu 3-0 at Balaka Stadium.

Veteran Heston Munthali, James Chilapondwa and Chimango Kaira, all former Escom United players were the men on target as the ‘People’s team’ joined Silver Strikers at the summit of the TNM Super League’s log table.

The bankers fell 1-0 at the hands of Azam Tigers in Nchalo but they are still holding on to the top position- thanks to their superior goal difference over Bullets. Both sides have 31 points but Bullets have played 16 games, one more than the bankers.

In Zomba, Mafco FC collected three vital away points after beating Blantyre United 2-1. Mafco lost 4-1 when the two teams met in the first round at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Also collecting maximum points were Civo United, who came out 1-0 victors over visiting Moyale Barracks at Civo Stadium.

Defender John Lanjesi scored the lone strike two minutes into the last half following a corner kick by Lawrence ‘Teacher’ Mwehiwa.

Coach Alex Masanjala did not hide his excitement after the final whistle: “I am happy that we have won after that poor form. This gives us the confidence to do well in the coming fixtures.”

His counterpart Nicholas Mhango conceded the defeat, blaming it on poor defending.
