Peter Mponda was reacquainted with a TNM Super League relegation battle on Sunday as Azam Tigers saw off his Fisd Wizards 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
The Kau-Kau boys clipped the Wizards through Bright Munthali’s goal.
With Sunday’s defeat, Mponda boys are stuck on the tail with 21 points, and their chance to remain in the elite league is minimal.
Tactically, it’s tough to know where to go from here form the elite league rookies: there’s a basic level of competence required for any tactics to take effect, and Wizards are miles below that standard just now.
Wizards, who won their last week’s game 3-0 to Dedza Young Soccer had no fighting spirit and looked dis-jointed in all the departments.
Tigers were more on the attack and could have scored more goals if their striking force was sharp enough. Mike Chitani’s goal was ruled for offside, while Yamikani Chester was denied by the woodwork.
With Sunday’s results, it means the battle to escape relegation zone is for Fisds, Epac and Airborne Rangers.
Epac are on 14th position with 24 points, while Airborne Rangers are stuck on bottom.
