Women’s football team player murdered

Malawi women’s national football fraternity has been hit by a tragedy after Blantyre Zero player Yanjanani ‘Ntonjane’ Pinanji was found dead.

Pinanji, who played for the Malawi national women’s football team, was found murdered in  Blantyre on Friday.

Police said they are investigating the murder.

Blantyre Zero team manager Maggie Chombo was shocked with the death saying it has robbed the team of a great player.

“This is big blow to the team because she was a good player who was the pillar of the team,” Chombo said.

“That’s why she was a key member of the national team.”

The robust and hard tackling defender joined Blantyre Zero in 2010 and went on to play for the national team.

She has aged aged 25 and was from the Southern Region district of Nsanje.
